Department of Speech & Hearing

Concept:
Speech and hearing department is one of the two major branches in Speech and Hearing. The department is routinely involved in evaluation, diagnosis, counseling and management of persons with various types of speech ,language and communication disorders and evaluation and diagnosis of hearing loss, prevention of hearing loss, hearing aids trial and fitting auditory training program , counseling of patients to care of hearing aids and its maintained and rehabilitation of the individuals with hearing impairment and evaluation of speech, language and communication disorders include detailed assessment of clients with speech problems ,language problems (such as delayed language development, Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Specific Language Impairments and Aphasia) and related disorders (such as swallowing and oral motor difficulties). A battery of appraisal procedures starting from case history to assessment through special tests .Counseling, guidance, home training program, services are also provided to clients and their families in their local language according to the locality on various issues related to evaluation and management of persons with speech and language disorders on a regular basis.

Innovative initiative undertaken:
The Department of Speech and hearing conducts camps and outreach programs to cater to the needs of the clients who are unable to attend the services at the CRC due to geographical or financial constraints. The programs are organized in collaboration with voluntary agencies like NGO’s, Social Service Organizations, Special Schools and Regular Schools at various parts of the State.ADIP scheme: CRC has functioned as the implementing agency for ADIP scheme and has distributed hearing aids by conducting camps across the all districts in Chhattisgarh.

1. The child does not able to detect the non-verbal sound like drum ‘clap, whistle, bell To develop the detection of thnon-verbal sound like drum ‘clap, whistle, bell . The clinician give the drum sound from the back side of the child & instruct child whenever you will hear the sound put the blocks on the table. The child detect the non-verbal sound like –drum and clap.
