CRC – AN INTRODUCTION
Chhattisgarh’s disabled population has witnessed a whopping rise of 48% from 2001 to 2011 with the number of disabled going up from 4.19 lakh to 6.24 lakh during the period. These include 2.31 lakh males and 1.88 lakh females
The Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan)(CRC), Rajnandgaon established on Dated 25th June, 2016 & had worked under the Administrative Control of Swami Vivekand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training And Research (SVNIRTAR), Cuttack as an extension centre. The Administrative Control of “Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development Rehabilitation & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRC), Rajnandgaon” has shifted to National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan) (NIEPID), Secunderabad with effect from Dated 01st May 2020.
Today, it is fully-equipped and functional to provide rehabilitative and educational services to all types of disabilities. It is located at Old Hospital Campus Rajnandgaon, CRC offers end-to-end solutions for the Divyangjan in Chhattisgarh. Its services that range from the academic to clinical, it continues to be committed to further the cause of the Divyangjan. Persons having different disabilities, served by CRC, include persons with Locomotor Disability, Blindness, Low-vision, Hearing Impairment, Mental Retardation, Mental Illness, Leprosy Cured, Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Multiply Disabled of all ages. Special emphasis is given to early intervention. A team including Assistant Professor Speech & Audiology, Assistant Professor Clinical Psychology, Assistant Professor Special Education, Lecturer in Occupational Therapy, Lecturer in Physiotherapist, Orientation & Mobility Instructor, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Specialist, Prosthetic & Orthotic Engineer, Rehabilitation Officer, Special Educationist, and Vocational Instructor work at the Centre on principles of trans-disciplinary approach.
The basic aim of CRC, Rajnadgaon is to create resources and infrastructure required for developing services for persons with disabilities including human resource development and research. The Centre is for facilitating capacity at local levels as well rather than letting it centralize in urban areas. CRC, Rajnandgaon building was equipped with good infrastructure and all assessment and therapeutic material to provide the best services to persons with disabilities. The teams of professionals are providing their services in different areas such as rehabilitation medicine, clinical & rehabilitation, parental training, speech, hearing & communication, special education, training for persons with deaf and blindness, physiotherapy & occupational therapy, early Intervention, prosthetics & orthotics, sensory integration, and community based rehabilitation.
